The Technische Universität Darmstadt (TUDa) with its 27,000 students and 4,500 employees is renowned especially for its natural sciences and engineering departments. The department of materials science contributes with 20 subject groups covering many different topics from structural and chemical analysis to thin films and surfaces both on an experimental and computational level. A strong focus is on functional materials, as conducted in the research group Functional Materials of Prof. Gutfleisch. Its focus lies on the research of magnetocaloric and permanent magnet materials. The group has the possibility to represent the whole process chain of standard magnet production on a lab scale and conducts activities in the additive manufacturing of magnetic materials. Magnetic materials such as NdFeB can be produced by these different routes and analysed with state-of-the-art equipment for microstructural, chemical and magnetic properties.
